Monica Syrdal is a member of Hjort’s corporate law department. She works primarily with copyright, trademark and marketing law. Syrdal also has extensive experience with privacy law, as well as competition law and basic European and European Economic Area (EEA) law.
Syrdal has in-depth competence within the technology, media and telecommunications practice areas, and is often engaged in assisting companies in these sectors. In particular, Syrdal has experience with matters that are connected to both intellectual property rights and competition. Syrdals’ work has influenced legislative changes at both national and European levels.
Syrdal provides continuous advice pertaining to intellectual property issues. Advice includes assessments and assistance with the design and negotiation of agreements, especially in cases regarding distribution, copyright or other intellectual property licensing in correlation with the handling of relationships with relevant sector authorities. These authorities include the Ministry of Culture, The Norwegian Media Authority, Norwegian Communications Authority, The Consumer Authority and Data Protection Authority.
Syrdal has experience with dispute resolution in the field of intellectual property, including for the courts, the Appeals Board for Industrial Rights, the Market Council, the Cable Disputes Committee, the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee (Domain Names) and the Committee for the Control of Unfair Competition.
Within competition law, Syrdal has assisted in cases pertaining to the prohibition of anti-competitive agreements and abuse of dominant positions. She has experience in handling cases of alleged violation of competition law, including those for the Competition Authority, the Competition Appeals Board, the EFTA Surveillance Authority and the ordinary courts. She also has experience in enforcing the competition rules before the courts in private law. Moreover, Syrdal provides competition law advice, including competition law compliance.
