Christian B. Hjort is a partner in Hjort’s criminal law department. Hjort has comprehensive experience from a broad range of civil cases as well as financial criminal proceedings. Over the years, Christian has represented companies and private persons in various high-profile cases involving financial crime, specifically corruption, insider trading, market manipulation, misappropriation of funds, and tax fraud.

Among other things, Christian acted as defence counsel (Oslo District Court, January–April 2018) for a listed seismic company indicted by Økokrim (the Norwegian National Authority for Investigation and Prosecution of Economic and Environmental Crime) for contributing to tax fraud in connection with exploration cost reimbursement under the Petroleum Taxation Act. He was also defence counsel for Hexagon AB’s CEO, who had been indicted for insider trading in Next Biometrics ASA in a high-profile case in Oslo District Court in November 2017). In September 2017 Christian defended a former sales representative of Kongsberg Defence Communication AS in Asker and Bærum District Court in a case involving misappropriation of funds through the use of intermediaries in Romania.

Christian has conducted several financial crime cases before the Norwegian Supreme Court that have set legal precedent. Christian regularly assists companies and organisations on compliance and anti-corruption measures and in connection with external and internal investigations.
