Lars Fr. Styren


Lars Fr. Styren assists companies, public institutions and private persons with counsel, inquiries and dispute resolution within both individual and collective employment law.

Lars advises a broad spectrum of clients in all fields related to employment law. He has extensive experience with the practical and legal issues that occur in relation to reorganisation and downsizing processes, including termination agreements.

Previously, Lars worked as a deputy judge, and came to Hjort from The Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise’s (NHO) Legal Department, where he specialized in employment litigation. He has litigated a number of cases for the district courts and the Court of Appeals regarding a number of labor law issues, including termination and dismissal, business transfer as well as the limits of the employer’s right of management. Styren has also handled cases concerning collective labor law for the Labor Court.

Lars has had the legal responsibility for inquiry assignments relating to breaches of the requirement under the Working Environment Acts for a safe working environment.

Styren is an experienced lecturer on employment law-related topics, and has also been a board member of the Norsk Arbeidsrettslig Forening (NARF), the Norwegian Labor Law Association.

The number of court rulings pertaining to employment law has increased significantly. These court rulings contribute to legal precedence, as well as the clarification of important employment law issues. In order to provide an overview of current employment law rulings by the courts, Styren established Hjorts article series “Arbeidsrettspraksis”.
